Learn SAP Online: Certification and Training Information

Online SAP training prepares learners to implement and use enterprise resource planning products in the workplace. Training and certification, either directly through the vendor or through formal education programs, can attest to a person's ability to implement, coordinate and manage business-planning activities.

Online SAP Certification

The exams required for SAP (Systems Applications Products) certification are only offered by SAP directly; however, some universities have partnered with the company to provide certification exam options as part of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) certificate program. It's possible to earn certification at the associate and professional levels. SAP certification exams are offered in multiple areas of specialization, such as supply chain management, retail, small business, midsize company, service-oriented architecture and customer relationship management.
Working professionals in supply chain management, project management, information systems, business operations and related niches can pursue online training through SAP directly or through online university certificate programs. Online SAP learners may need minimum tech requirements like browsers, headphones or microphones to effectively view exercises, as well as participate in interactive online learning activities.

Training and Certification through SAP

SAP offers several of its own online training options to educate and prepare students for certification. Students can enroll in instructor-led training or self-directed, self-paced modules. Depending on the format, students may have the opportunity to access course materials or repeat classes for a limited time after the initial training experience. Course materials are generally included in the purchase price of the class. Limited technical support may also be available.
Courses that are taught by instructors generally include quizzes, simulations and opportunities to chat with SAP instructors or experts. The class curriculum is typically the same as for courses taught by SAP-staff at in-person training sessions. Those who enroll in self-directed courses can participate in Web-based training, access course materials and practice with simulated exercises.
Online course options for those who are training independently may also include access to slide and audio files, demonstrations or simulations and slide notes. There may be some technical support and access to SAP systems for online practice.

University Certificate Programs

Some universities partner with SAP to provide certificate training on SAP solutions and preparation for SAP certification exams as part of an ERP certificate program. The curriculum typically requires classes in topics like enterprise resource planning systems, systems implementation and administration, electronic commerce and business processes. In some cases, it's possible to take certain certification exams as part of the program.
These certificate programs generally take less than two years. Cohort study is common, and online learning is geared toward working professionals. Some schools allow students who complete the online certificate program to apply some credits to an advanced degree. Programs may require a bachelor's degree, although other certificates are offered at the undergraduate level.
