Online Computer Drafting Training Programs

Computer drafting training is available online in a variety of different formats from several kinds of sources, including tutorials, short focused courses, certificate programs and degree programs. Some companies even offer training in computer drafting using specific software.

Online Short Courses and Tutorials for Computer Drafting

A number of different resources are available for students interested in self-teaching based online computer drafting programs. Some of these resources are available from knowledge bases or communities that offer free tutorials to the public. Others are courses that are available for a fee, usually from commercial organizations that specialize in training for students of computer aided drawing and machining. These courses may be supplemented by various forms of media, such as videos or flash demonstrations, or even interactive tutorials.
Also available from a variety of sources are short, focused courses in computer aided drafting (CAD), or, more often, in CAD using a particular brand of software. Such courses are commonly available from dedicated training companies and even colleges and universities. Some of these courses end in a certification or learner's certificate or may provide the knowledge required for a professional certification.

Online Computer Drafting Degrees and Certificates

Some colleges offer certificate programs or degrees that focus on or involve computer drafting. Often, certificates are available as through 1-year vocational or technical programs that award a certificate of completion. These programs usually provide classes not only in the use of computer software for drafting purposes, but in the geometry and mathematics, at times physics and, depending on the application, other disciplines necessary to use the software to effectively design various mechanical parts or even structures.
Degree programs that incorporate computer drafting are normally associate's degrees in subjects like CAD, building information modeling or architectural drafting. Higher level degrees with computer drafting components, such as the Master of Science in Computer Systems Engineering, do not normally focus directly on computer drafting, but include it as a concentration or emphasis, as well as coursework in architecture and engineering.
