Theater History Course
Through this introductory course, students learn the history of
theater and live entertainment. Students study culture and the styles
and visual expression that are put into plays and performance. The
history of theater architecture may also be covered. Video and audio
lectures examine the role theater plays in society.
This course is a fundamental course for those taking a drama degree
or interested in working in theater. Students learn how to channel
emotions and experiences into their acting. This course can be taken
online, but on-campus practicum is recommended. Online students learn
about body language, voice, script analysis, characterization and stage
terminology.
Scriptwriting Course
With a scriptwriting course, students learn what it means to create
drama, along with the creative process and theater terminology. Students
practice writing plays and study many genres. Considering scripts as if
they are to be put on stage, students visualize the play with design,
costume, direction, character and believable dialogue.
Business Theater Course
Students use online lectures and reading materials to study theater
as a business. Bookkeeping, theater management, human resource skills
and finance are covered. Other topics in this course, which should be
taken anywhere from the middle to end of the program, include
fund-raising techniques, ticket sales, and production management.
