To be eligible to become an education
administrator, students must hold a minimum of a master's degree. There
are online master's degree available where students can specialize in
administration of educational leadership. Most programs can be completed
in two years or less.
Online Education Administration Master's Degree Programs
Students can primarily find online Master of Science in Education
Administration degree programs. Theses program instill the students with
leadership skills to work in the central office or other in
administrative positions. Students are prepared to work with all ages
from elementary to secondary school students and faculty. Skills
obtained include implementation of school procedures, understanding
curriculum structures, enforcing policies and understanding student's
rights.
Degree programs of this type can be found entirely online as well as
in a hybrid format. The general length of the program is about 60
credit-hours of core curriculum courses and specialization courses. The
programs provide the student with the necessary knowledge to enroll in
an Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium's School Leaders
Licensure Assessment program or Instructional Leadership Development
program. These assessment programs are required for licensure as an
education administrator in some states. Students must have an adequate
internet connection, as well as access to transportation to the campus
if the program is taken in a hybrid format.
Online Educational Administration Master's Degree Courses
The core curriculum coursework consists of core coursework and
specialized administration courses. Some programs also incorporate an
internship program where the student can gain experience in the field.
Hybrid courses are often taught by existing principals or
superintendent's who have acquired real-world experience.
Human Diversity Course
In this course students are required to assess their own personal
heritage for the purpose of understanding ones culture. Students learn
to respect race, sexual orientation, gender and languages of others. The
course outlines potential problems related to discrimination and how to
deal with them.
Administrative Finances Course
This course reveals how to manage a budget of schools and school
systems. It outlines the legal and moral principles of handling
finances. Students gain an understanding of where the money comes from
and what it is used for.
Improvement of Technology and Planning Efficiency Course
Students will gain an understanding of the impact technology,
particularly the internet, has on young students. The program highlights
the benefits, as well as the dangers of using the internet as an
educational tool.
Graduates of this type of degree program can expect obtain a position
as an office administrator, school principal, dean, assistant principal
or educational director. According the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics,

These degree programs prepare students for general education
administrator positions, they do no incorporate specific licensure
programs and exams. If the state requires it, and a student wants to
become a principal, he or she must take a principal certificate course
