Requirements for Online Courses

Online courses require a computer with an Internet connection - preferably high-speed, because some classes may incorporate live video streaming and video conferencing. Students often participate in online discussion boards as well, and a scanner may be needed for submitting some assignments. Students may also need to download a software interface, such as Moodle, so they can access all of the e-learning features of a course. These programs are usually available on the Web free of charge, and many courses integrate a software tutorial session into the curriculum.
Many online horticulture classes are hybrids, meaning they combine online instruction with a hands-on component. These courses often require field trips, lab study and other practical work. Some online courses in horticulture are not for credit; some may have prerequisites.

Designed for experienced gardeners, this class also covers pest management, soil health, compost and mulch, all within the framework of organically managed land. Plant Propagation Course

Students learn how to grow new plants using a variety of methods, including seeds, cuttings, layering, grafting and micropropagation. The biology, anatomy, history and use of these techniques is also explored. For some classes of this type, students are sent home kits to use for plant production.
