Online Probability Courses and Classes

Online probability classes are usually offered by academic institutions and are generally used to fulfill degree requirements. Most of the classes offered online concentrate on introductory or basic material, and typically come bundled with statistic coursework. Classes are available for either mathematics majors or students majoring in other fields.

Overview of Online Probability Courses

Classes in probability often fulfill requirements for degrees such as a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting or a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Possible advanced degrees include a Master of Science in Statistics or a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics. In addition, degrees like a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security and a Master of Business Administration often require coursework in probability.

General Requirements for Online Courses

In addition to the usual computer and system requirements, many online probability classes require the use of scientific calculators with special functions beyond the capabilities of most computer-based calculators. These required functions are usually listed in the course descriptions.
For some classes, students may need to purchase online study materials, like web-based textbooks, or purchase materials online from the school's bookstore. Although most classes feature online examinations, a few may require in-person proctored examinations at neutral venues.

Probability for Non-Mathematics Majors Course

This course surveys the basics of probability and its history, development and applications. The course uses the principles of discrete probability to introduce elementary statistics. Knowledge in calculus is not required.

Elementary Probability and Statistics Course

Students majoring in mathematics are introduced to basic probability theorems and applications in this course. The methodology for examining the distribution of random variables, event interdependence, regression tests, sampling and determining statistical inference is presented. This course requires a working knowledge of calculus.

Theory of Probability Course

Advanced probability theories are presented in this course. The concepts include local limit theorems, infinitely divisible distributions, triangular arrays and stable laws. Ergodic theory, Markov chains, Bayes Theorem, linear regressions, combinatorics and stochastic processes are also examined.

Probability, Decision-making and Six Sigma Course

In this course students learn to apply probability theorems to develop models for decision-making. Students define uncertainly concepts, examine multivariate relationships and establish plot points and lines. Also covered are processes to estimate theories, compute standard errors and interpret confidence levels. The students relate the mathematical concepts to Six Sigma manufacturing analysis and techniques.
