Online Coaching Continuing Education Units (CEUs): Course Overviews

Online coaching courses for the field of athletics are available online. Coaching courses can be taken fully online or in a hybrid format for continuing education units (CEUs). Classwork may be delivered entirely online or through a mix of online instruction and telephone training sessions.

Overview of Online Coaching CEU Courses

Coaches are leaders who handle the instruction and training of athletes and sports teams. Increasingly, coaching courses can be found online; this is especially true of continuing education training for certified coaches who require credits toward re-certification. Continuing education requirements are often a component of renewing certification or licensure from state agencies or sports organizations.
Courses may be fully online or in hybrid format with a mix of online study and in-person training. Some courses have enrollment prerequisites such as a minimum of a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution. Many coaching CEU courses also require CPR certification for enrollment. Related job titles for coaches includes head coach, youth coach or athletic director.

Course Requirements

Courses require the use of a computer with audio and video capabilities as well as Internet access. Software such as Adobe Reader and Microsoft PowerPoint is often used for course delivery. Web discussion boards and e-mail are used for communication with faculty and classmates. Course materials may be distributed on DVD or CD. Textbooks may be included with enrollment or available for separate purchase. Some coursework may entail conference calls with faculty and travel for seminars.
